A Baby’s Development at 6 Weeks
At 6 weeks, babies are starting to focus their vision, and can recognize their parents’ faces. They will also start to smile and laugh, although these reactions are usually just the result of random muscle movements. Babies this age can also track moving objects with their eyes, and may be able to lift their heads for short periods of time.
At 6 weeks, babies can also start to recognize familiar sounds and voices. They may be soothed by the sound of their parents’ voices, or begin to fuss when they hear a stranger. This is also the age when babies begin to become aware of their hands and feet, and may start to reach out and grab things
At 6 weeks, babies may also begin making cooing sounds, and may even respond to their name when it is spoken. They may also start to show signs of distress when they are hungry or uncomfortable. Babies this age are also starting to gain control over their limbs, and may be able to kick their legs and move their arms.
Tips for Parents
At 6 weeks, parents should continue to talk to their baby and read stories to them. This is a great way to help your baby develop their language skills and bond with them. Parents should also continue to play with their baby, as this helps them learn about the world around them. Additionally, babies this age should continue to be held, snuggled, and talked to throughout the day.
