At this time, there is no approved Covid-19 vaccine for babies. The majority of Covid-19 vaccines that have been approved for use in the United States are for adults 18 and older.
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that caregivers of babies and young children focus on prevention strategies that are known to reduce frequent hand washing, wearing masks, avoiding large gatherings and maintaining physical distance.
The AAP is currently working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to develop strategies to help protect pregnant women, infants and young children from Covid-19.
The CDC recommends that pregnant women who are currently planning or considering pregnancy should also be vaccinated against Covid-19.
The CDC also recommends that all individuals, including children and pregnant women, should be vaccinated when a vaccine becomes available to them.
At this time, the CDC recommends that pregnant women, parents, and caregivers of infants and young children take the necessary steps to protect themselves and their families from Covid-19 infection.
