Sindhutai Sakpal

Sindhutai Sakpal is an Indian social worker and social activist. She is often referred to as the “Mother of Orphans” for having raised more than 1,400 orphans. She was born in a poor peasant family in a small village called Chikaldara in Amravati district of Maharashtra.

Sakpal was married at the age of 10 and her husband began to mistreat her. She was determined to fight back, and her efforts led to her husband’s arrest. After his release, she was thrown out of the house and had to

Sakpal eventually found a job as a domestic help in. With the money she earned, she started providing basic education and food to the poor children in her community. She later started an orphanage, the Mahila Seva Sangh, with the help of some local people. Over the years, she has provided thousands of orphans with education, food, and a loving home.

Sakpal has been honored with numerous awards including the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award in India. In 2009, she was also chosen the 100 most influential people in India by the Times of India. She has been featured in several documentaries and has been the subject of a book, ‘Mother of Orphans’. She is an inspirational figure who continues to work for the betterment of the society.
