At 15 months old, your baby is likely to be displaying a number of physical, cognitive, and social-emotional milestones. One of the next milestones a 15 month old should be working towards is developing their fine motor skills. Examples of fine motor skills that a 15 month old should start to develop are:
- Using their thumb and index finger to pick up small objects
- Building a tower of two to four blocks
- Turning the pages of a book one at a time
- Putting objects into a container and taking them out again
- Scooping up food with a spoon and bringing it to their mouth
- Trying to imitate writing or scribbling movements
In addition to developing their fine motor skills, a 15 month old should also be starting to understand and use simple words and phrases. This is an important milestone in language development, as it marks the beginning of your baby’s ability to communicate with you. Examples of simple words and phrases that a 15 month old may be using include:
- Mama
- Dada
- No
- Bye-bye
- Hi
- Uh-oh
